There once was this minimalistic, free file hosting service called “boomspeed” that had the potential of become the Google of quick and simple file hosting services.
Due to their popularity and greed, Boomspeed started a paid premium service that gave users 250MB of web space and premium support. They kept their free service for the existing members so they wouldn’t lose their audience.
I signed up the free service some 4 or 5 years ago and liked the fact that you could access your files using FTP and the web interface we quite user friendly.
At one point or another…Boomspeed turned greedier than it has previously turned.
This morning Wendy informed me that one of the files hosted on my old Boomspeed account wasn’t showing up on her blog.
luckily I had a backup of it hosted on 0xtc.com and it was fixed quickly, but it made me wonder what happened to the old one on Boomspeed so I went to check it out.

Access Denied! All the files in my old Boomspeed account’s directory are being blocked. Unshared. Captive. My once free account had suddenly been renamed to a “trail” account that has now been taken hostage by Boomspeed and may only be reactivated once until I pay them a ransom sum of $25.
Thank you for using Boomspeed.Free trials from the years 2001-2006 ended on January 1st, 2007.
…it reads.
Free trials from 2001 to 2006? A 5 year “trial”?! Are you shitting me?
Screw you!
Oh, and Greg Deeter is an asshole.

Boomspeed Image hostage service
I hated to loose several photos that are not replaceable but with business conduct like Boomspeed.com has demonstrated, it’ll be a cold day in hell when they get any of my money.
Not giving any advance notice that the “free trial” was being terminated is C.S.!
Screw you Boomspeed!

Whatever you do, do NOT agree to pay for boomspeed. They doublebill you constantly and you cannot cancel your account. I have been trying for more than a year.
An email elicits an autoreply telling you to contact their support staff and as far as I can tell, there are none. Their telephone number goes to an answerphone.
I also tried cancelling my account on their so called support forums http://support.boomspeed.com/ twice but on both occasions my post was deleted (not before I got a screenshot of the first post though).
As a last resort, I contacted the Internet Crime Complaint Centre http://www.ic3.gov/ and reported these clowns and I have also closed my credit card account.
…
I’ve been a boomspeed customer since 2002 and had no problems what so ever… until this year. When I stopped using my VISA and went back to a PayPal subscription. So, now they charge me $6 a month via PayPal AND they are charging me an additional $18 a month (sometimes even upto $25 - which I read their terms of service and is supposedly a QUARTERLY bill, but yet they’re been charging me every month since March 2007). 2 kind emails, 2 months and 3 vicious, threatening emails and I get no response. I hope more people google this and see what a crock of shit they are. I am outraged.

I signed on with Boomspeed in 2002 with a free account. I used it for a couple of years so I paid for the premium account through my credit card. Yep, double billings, trying to cancel my account and being ignored, calling the credit card company to block G DEETER PHILANTIC from charging me and then they charge me under BOOMSPEED, I let this slide until now. I was charged $18 n June and then $25 in July! What was THAT for??!! So I called my credit card company AGAIN, asked them to block both DETTER and BOOM and had a new card issued. They had BETTER not be able to access THIS card! There has got to be a way to stop these people from rippping everyone off. Now they charge a $59 fee if you request the overpayment through your credit card company and boomspeed to have the extra charges to be returned. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!

I want to cancel my Boomspeed account, because my Mum’s credit card pays for it (I have no credit card, only a regular one) but reading the above is rather unnerving.
