Yesterday I dropped by my local Stuff-You-Could-Get-For-Free-But-You-Pay-For-Here store and bought me Metallica - Some Kind Of Monster, Super Size Me and some other stuff I also could’ve gotten for free online.

Some Kind Of Monster was surprising. The movie starts out as what one would expect, namely a promo DVD for an album, a “making of” or some other material you sometimes get for free along with a music CD or is sent off to MTV for promotional purposes, but due to circumstances and events that took place, it evolved into a full fledged documentary, not only about Metallica but about their demons, insecurities and the issues they face.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the band as individuals who are in a band rather than just Metallica Rock Stars and was impressed by how open and honest they were in showing their personal sides.

There are also bits and pieces of info on the Lars Ulrich vs. Napster case in both the movie and on the second DVD.

In my opinion, Lars is still has some major inferiority complex issues.

I still haven’t finished watching the extras on the second DVD (it’s more than seven hours long cut down from 1600 hours of footage). Most of the clips on it are definitely worth watching. Especially “James on growing up” and “Kirk goes to driving school”.

Metallica - Some Kind Of Monster was worth its money. I have a whole new level of respect for these guys, their talents and the music they make.
